LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Toronto Tempo and Los Angeles Sparks, both with 1-2 records, meet Sunday at Crypto.com Arena in a WNBA rematch less than 48 hours after the Sparks edged Toronto 99-95 on Friday. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. PDT. The Tempo (1-2) lost that Friday contest despite 27 points, seven assists and four rebounds from guard Brittney Sykes. Sykes has been on a scoring tear, averaging 19.7 points over her past three games, including 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a win over Seattle on May 13 and 14 points in a loss to Washington on May 8. Toronto’s Nyara Sabally added 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists in Friday’s loss, and Laura Juskaite chipped in 16 points. The Sparks (1-2) counter with Kelsey Plum, who matched Sykes with 27 points and nine assists in Friday’s victory. Plum is averaging 26.3 points over her last three games, scoring 25 points in a loss to Indiana on May 13 and 27 in a blowout loss to Las Vegas on May 10. Nneka Ogwumike posted 20 points and five rebounds for Los Angeles on Friday, and Dearica Hamby added 19 points and seven rebounds. The two teams met Saturday as well, but the result was listed as a scoreless 0-0, likely due to a postponed or incomplete contest; Friday’s game is the most recent completed head-to-head. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 104-94 victory for Toronto, but oddsmakers have installed Los Angeles as an 8.5-point favorite. The over-under for total points is set at 173.5. Toronto will play at Phoenix on Tuesday, then at Minnesota on Thursday. Los Angeles visits Phoenix on Thursday and Las Vegas on Saturday. Both teams are searching for consistency early in the season. The Tempo’s lone win came against Seattle, while the Sparks’ only victory is Friday’s nail-biter over Toronto.
