SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs meet Thursday night at Frost Bank Center in Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals, with the series tied 2-2 after four games of tightly contested basketball. The Thunder (74-20) come in with the NBA’s best regular-season record, while the Spurs (72-26) finished second. Both teams have flashed championship-caliber depth and star power through the first four games, which have featured two wins apiece, including a double-overtime thriller on May 18 that San Antonio won 122-115. Oklahoma City bounced back with consecutive victories on May 20 (122-113) and May 22 (123-108) before San Antonio answered with a commanding 103-82 win Sunday to even the series. The Spurs’ defense held the Thunder to 82 points — their lowest output of the playoffs — and forced 15 turnovers. The series has been defined by the duel between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama. Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder’s All-NBA guard, has averaged 24.8 points and 10.0 assists in the series. He struggled in Game 4, posting 19 points on 7-of-20 shooting, but had 26 points and 12 assists in Game 3. Over his last eight postseason games, he has scored at least 18 points, including a 35-point effort against the Lakers on May 11. Wembanyama has been even more dominant. The 7-foot-4 forward recorded 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks in Game 4. He erupted for 41 points and 24 rebounds in the double-overtime Game 1 win, and has nine double-doubles in 11 playoff games. In the series, he is averaging 30.3 points, 14.3 rebounds and 3.5 blocks. San Antonio’s supporting cast has also stepped up. De’Aaron Fox had 12 points and 10 rebounds in Game 4, and Devin Vassell added 13 points. For the Thunder, center Chet Holmgren contributed 10 points and nine rebounds in Game 4, while Isaiah Hartenstein added 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench. The winner of Thursday’s game will take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series, with Game 7 scheduled Saturday in Oklahoma City. According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Spurs are projected to win 121-107. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CDT.
