OKLAHOMA CITY (Interstat) — The Oklahoma City Thunder look to close out their Western Conference semifinal series against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, holding a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven matchup. Game 5 is set for 8 p.m. CDT at Paycom Center, where the top-seeded Thunder (74-19) can advance to the conference finals with a victory. The seed Spurs (71-26) face elimination after dropping consecutive games in San Antonio last week. Oklahoma City took control of the series with a 123-108 road win Friday, a game in which Shai Gilgeous-Alexander posted 26 points and 12 assists. The Thunder star has been the consistent anchor for his team, averaging 26.7 points and 11 assists over the first four games of the series. San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama produced 26 points and four rebounds in that loss, but the 7-foot-4 center has been inconsistent. After erupting for 41 points and 24 rebounds in a Game 3 double-overtime victory, Wembanyama followed with two quieter performances. The Spurs are counting on a bounce-back effort from their second-year phenom, who also had 21 points and 17 rebounds in a Game 2 defeat. The series has been a battle of star power. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points with nine assists in Game 2, while Wembanyama’s historic Game 3 performance — playing 49 minutes — prevented a potential sweep. But Oklahoma City has responded each time San Antonio has threatened, winning two straight since that Spurs win. The Thunder have won three of four head-to-head meetings in the playoffs, replicating a regular-season split in which each team won twice at home. Oklahoma City went 40-6 at Paycom Center during the regular season. San Antonio will need contributions beyond Wembanyama. Guard Devin Vassell scored 20 points in Game 4, and rookie Stephon Castle added 14 points and seven assists. The Spurs have struggled to contain Oklahoma City’s backcourt, with Gilgeous-Alexander dictating tempo and finding open shooters. A statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a 121-104 Thunder victory. The winner of this series will advance to face either the Minnesota Timberwolves or Los Angeles Lakers in the conference finals. For the Spurs, the path to extending the series starts with slowing Gilgeous-Alexander and getting Wembanyama into a rhythm early. For the Thunder, one more win at home sends them to the next round.
