SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers, owners of the best record in the National League, open a three-game series against the last-place San Francisco Giants at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Oracle Park. Milwaukee (66-39) will start right-hander Brandon Sproat (3-5, 4.12 ERA). San Francisco (44-61) counters with right-hander Adrian Houser, who is 0-5 over his past five appearances. Sproat has struggled recently, allowing six earned runs over his last two starts covering 9 1/3 innings. Houser has yielded three earned runs in 12 2/3 innings over his last three outings while taking three losses. The Brewers enter on a two-game winning streak after beating the Colorado Rockies 11-2 on Sunday. Left-hander Jacob Misiorowski earned the win, allowing one hit and one earned run while striking out 12 over five innings. Outfielders Luis Lara (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Jackson Chourio (2-for-5, one RBI) also contributed. Milwaukee has won seven of its last 10 games and holds a 2-2 record against the Giants this season. San Francisco took two of three in Milwaukee in early June, including a 12-9 win June 4 and a 1-0 victory June 3. The Giants lost 4-3 to the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Houser pitched four scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out two. Left-hander Carson Whisenhunt allowed four runs over five innings, and second baseman Luis Arraez went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. San Francisco has lost six of its last seven games and has dropped eight of its last 11 overall. The Giants offense has scored three or fewer runs in seven of their last nine contests. Milwaukee is the betting favorite at -1.5 on the run line, with the over/under set at 8.5. An Interstat game simulation projects the Brewers to win 6-5. The series continues Tuesday and Wednesday before the Brewers travel to Los Angeles for a weekend set against the Angels. The Giants head to San Diego on Thursday for a four-game series against the Padres.
