ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The St. Louis Cardinals, winners of three of their last four, open a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night at Angel Stadium. St. Louis (51-47) sits three games above .500 and looks to rebound from a 7-8, 10-inning loss at Arizona on Sunday. Third baseman Blaze Jordan went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in that game and has been a consistent force at the plate. Over his past 10 games, Jordan is batting .361 (13-for-36) with 10 RBIs, including a 3-for-5, three-RBI performance July 3 at Chicago. He also drove in a run July 11 against Atlanta. The Angels (39-61) are 22 games under .500 but enter with some momentum after a 3-2 win Sunday over Detroit. Right-hander Ryan Johnson is slated to start Monday. Johnson, 26, threw five innings of two-hit, one-run ball with five strikeouts in that victory. Over his last five starts, he has a 2.79 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 25 innings, though he is 1-2 in that span. He allowed one earned run in six innings against Baltimore on June 23. Monday’s matchup features two clubs heading in opposite directions. The Cardinals have split their past six games but own a 5-2 record in their last seven contests against teams with losing records. The Angels have lost seven of their last 10 and are 7-18 since July 1. St. Louis’ offense has been keyed by Jordan, who is hitting .293 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs. The Cardinals have scored five or more runs in four of their last six games. Los Angeles, meanwhile, ranks near the bottom of the American League in runs scored and has been held to two or fewer runs in four of its last six.
