AP Sports Preview: Brewers at Pirates PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates conclude a four-game series Sunday with a day-night doubleheader at PNC Park, where rain is in the forecast with game-time temperatures near 80 degrees. Milwaukee (59-36) enters with the National League’s best record. The Brewers have dropped the series’ first two games, losing 7-6 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. Pittsburgh (49-47) has won four of its last six overall and sits at .500 on the season. Right-hander Shane Drohan will start for Milwaukee in one of the two games. Drohan, a key arm for the Brewers’ deep rotation, took the loss Saturday against these same Pirates despite a solid outing: 6 1/3 innings, five hits, three earned runs and six strikeouts. Over his past five starts, Drohan is 3-1 with a 2.88 ERA. He has pitched at least five innings in each of those outings and has held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in four of them. Pittsburgh will counter with righty Bubba Chandler. Chandler earned the win Saturday against Milwaukee, allowing two earned runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. His performance was a bounce-back effort after he was tagged for five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings against Philadelphia on June 30. Chandler’s command has been inconsistent; he has issued at least two walks in three of his past five starts. The Pirates have won each of the past three meetings between the clubs after dropping three of four in Milwaukee in April. Pittsburgh’s offense has been opportunistic, with Esmerlyn Valdez delivering a two-run homer in Saturday’s win. Milwaukee’s lineup has been productive on the road, averaging 5.3 runs per game away from American Family Field. Brice Turang drove in both Brewers runs on Saturday, going 1 for 5 with a pair of RBI. The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-5 Brewers victory, and Milwaukee opens as a minus-1.5 favorite. The over/under is 6.5 total runs. Following this series, Milwaukee returns home to host Miami for three games starting July 17. Pittsburgh hits the road for a three-game set at Cleveland beginning the same day.
