CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds wrap up their four-game series Sunday evening at Great American Ball Park, with the Cubs looking to avoid a sweep. First pitch is scheduled under a forecast of 81 degrees and rain. Chicago enters at 52-42, holding the top spot in the National League Central, while Cincinnati is 43-50, fifth in the division. The Reds have won the first two games of this set, shutting out the Cubs 4-0 and 2-0 on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Overall, Cincinnati has won seven of the last nine meetings between the clubs dating to May. Right-hander Shota Imanaga (7-5, 3.21 ERA) will start for the Cubs. He took the loss in Friday’s opener, allowing one earned run over five innings with five strikeouts. Imanaga has been solid of late, allowing two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five outings, including a win over San Diego on June 29. The Reds counter with right-hander Hunter Greene (10-4, 3.10 ERA). Greene was dominant in Friday’s win, tossing seven shutout innings with three hits allowed and 12 strikeouts. He has been inconsistent this season but dominant at times, including a complete-game effort against Baltimore earlier this month. The Cubs’ lineup has struggled to generate offense in this series, plating just two runs total. Shortstop Elly De La Cruz has been a key contributor for Cincinnati, homering and driving in a run Friday. Outfielder JJ Bleday also went deep in that game. Chicago is projected as a 1.5-run favorite, according to betting markets, with an over/under of 9.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a 6-4 Cubs victory. Following this series, the Cubs return home to host Minnesota for three games beginning July 17. Cincinnati travels to Colorado for a three-game set starting the same day.
