ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) β The Texas Rangers look to build on a tight lead in the AL West standings Saturday as they host the Houston Astros at Globe Life Park in a 95-degree, clear evening matchup. Texas (47-46) enters with a one-game edge over Houston (46-49), coming off a 7-6 win Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels. The Rangers took the series opener Friday, 2-0, marking their second shutout of the Astros this season. Houston dropped its most recent outing Wednesday, 8-2 at Washington. Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 10 K in his last start) takes the mound for Texas. Eovaldi has won his past five decisions, including a 7-6 victory over the Angels on July 9. He has been durable and effective, pitching at least six innings in four of his last five outings with 43 strikeouts over that span. For Houston, reliever Alimber Santa is a key bullpen arm to watch. Santa worked 2.0 scoreless innings Wednesday against Washington, allowing one hit. He has not allowed an earned run in three of his last four appearances, though he was touched for an earned run in a 6-3 win over the Nationals on July 7. The teams have split their season series, with Houston winning three of the last five meetings through Friday. The Astros took two of three at home in May, including a 9-0 shutout on May 25. Texas answered with an 8-0 win in Houston on May 17. The game pits a Rangers club that has won four of its last seven against an Astros team that has dropped four of its last seven. Houstonβs offense has struggled recently, scoring two runs or fewer in three of its last four contests. Texas is listed as a -1.5 run favorite. The over/under is set at 8.5 runs, with a game simulator projecting a 6-5 Rangers victory. Both teams conclude their series Sunday before Houston returns home to host Baltimore and Texas visits Atlanta.
