AP Sports Preview: Brewers at Cardinals ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — The National League Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers aim to further solidify their division lead Thursday night when they face the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium III. First pitch is set for 7:45 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with temperatures near 86 degrees. Milwaukee (58-33) enters the contest riding a hot streak, having won three of the last four games in this five-game series. The Brewers took a 4-3 win in Monday’s doubleheader opener, followed by a 10-2 rout Tuesday before falling 2-0 on Wednesday. Left-hander Robert Gasser (12-2, 2.87 ERA) will take the mound for Milwaukee. The 25-year-old has been dominant of late, winning his last four decisions. In his most recent outing Tuesday against these same Cardinals, Gasser earned a win by allowing two earned runs on four hits over 7 2/3 innings, striking out four. He has tossed at least 5 2/3 innings in each of his last four starts, posting a 1.88 ERA over that span. St. Louis (47-43) will counter with right-hander Hunter Dobbins (6-7, 4.41 ERA). Dobbins is coming off a rough outing, taking a loss Tuesday against Milwaukee after surrendering three earned runs on four hits over five innings. He has struggled recently, losing his last two decisions while allowing seven earned runs over 9 1/3 innings. The series has been lopsided in Milwaukee’s favor this season, with the Brewers winning six of eight head-to-head meetings, including four of five at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals have managed just 11 runs in those eight games. Milwaukee’s Cooper Pratt supplied key offense in Tuesday’s win, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. St. Louis designated hitter Nelson Velázquez homered in Wednesday’s win. The Interstat sports simulator projects a 7-5 Brewers victory. Following the game, Milwaukee heads to Pittsburgh for a three-game weekend set against the Pirates, while St. Louis returns home to host the Atlanta Braves for a three-game series starting Friday.
