PREVIEW: Guardians at Twins MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins continue their four-game series Thursday afternoon at Target Field, with the teams separated by just two games in the American League Central standings. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under a forecast of 75 degrees and rain. Cleveland (47-45) enters having lost two straight in the series, including a 3-1 setback Tuesday. The Guardians have dropped four of their last five overall and sit in third place in the division. Minnesota (45-47) has won two in a row against Cleveland after taking Wednesday’s series opener 3-1. The Twins are fourth in the division. Left-hander Joey Cantillo is expected to start for Cleveland. In his last outing Tuesday at Minnesota, Cantillo took the loss despite allowing no earned runs over five innings with seven strikeouts. The 25-year-old has posted a 1.65 ERA over his last four starts, striking out 29 in 24 innings. Right-hander Taj Bradley is the probable starter for Minnesota. Bradley earned the win Tuesday against the Guardians, tossing seven innings of three-hit ball with 10 strikeouts and one earned run. He has won his last four starts and owns a 2.16 ERA over that span with 32 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings. The Twins took two of three from Cleveland in May and have split four meetings in July. Cleveland’s offense has struggled of late, scoring three runs or fewer in five of its last six games. The Guardians have managed just one run in each of the first two games of this series. Minnesota’s pitching has been sharp, allowing two runs or fewer in three of its last four games. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Twins victory. After this series, Cleveland travels to Miami for a three-game weekend set against the Marlins. Minnesota returns home to host the Los Angeles Angels. The series continues Friday with the Guardians searching for their first win in Minneapolis since May.
