Preview: Diamondbacks at Padres SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres, both holding identical 45-46 records, meet Thursday at 7:10 p.m. PDT at PETCO Park in the finale of a four-game series. Right-hander Zac Gallen (3-7, 4.91 ERA) starts for Arizona. Gallen has lost his past four decisions, most recently taking a 4-1 loss Tuesday against San Diego, allowing four earned runs on six hits over six innings with five strikeouts. He has not won since June 14 at Cincinnati. Right-hander Germán Márquez (5-6, 4.02 ERA) starts for San Diego. Márquez earned the win Tuesday, throwing five scoreless innings with four strikeouts, allowing three hits. In his prior start, he lasted just three innings, surrendering two runs in a 12-7 loss at Los Angeles. The Padres took Tuesday’s game 4-1, with Jake Cronenworth hitting a three-run homer. Arizona countered with an 8-0 shutout Monday, evening the series. The teams split two games in April at Chase Field. San Diego snapped a four-game skid with Tuesday’s win. Arizona has dropped six of its last seven. A win Thursday would push either team one game above .500. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-1 Arizona victory. Thursday’s contest is the last before the All-Star break. The Diamondbacks open a three-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, while the Padres host the Toronto Blue Jays for three beginning Friday.
