LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers, owners of baseball’s best record, host the San Diego Padres on Sunday at 4:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, aiming to extend their dominance in the NL West. The Dodgers (58-31) have won four of the past five games in the season series, including a 4-3 walk-off victory Friday night. Los Angeles holds a commanding division lead, while the Padres (43-44) have lost six of their last seven contests and sit well below .500 entering the final game before the All-Star break. The forecast calls for 79 degrees with clouds. Pitching matchup Right-hander Michael King (4-6, 3.89 ERA) takes the ball for San Diego. King has struggled against the Dodgers this season, taking losses in both of his starts against them. He allowed two earned runs over six innings Friday but took a no-decision in a game the Padres eventually lost. In four of his last five outings, King has allowed three earned runs or fewer, but the Padres have lost four of those starts. His most encouraging performance came June 22 against Atlanta, when he tossed seven scoreless innings. The Dodgers have not announced a starting pitcher for Sunday. Shohei Ohtani started Friday and earned the win, allowing three earned runs over six innings with nine strikeouts. Players to watch Dodgers left fielder Teoscar Hernández delivered the decisive blow Friday, hitting a walk-off home run in the ninth inning. He drove in all four runs for Los Angeles. Hernández has been productive in the series, though he went hitless in a 12-7 win Thursday. Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI on Friday. Merrill has been a bright spot in a struggling lineup that has scored three runs or fewer in six of the last eight games. Betting line The Dodgers are installed as minus-1.5 favorites. The over/under is 9.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Dodgers victory. Upcoming schedules The Padres return home Monday for a four-game series against Arizona. The Dodgers host Colorado for four games starting Monday before a six-game road trip that features stops in New York and Philadelphia.
