CHICAGO (Interstat) — The St. Louis Cardinals will visit the Chicago Cubs on Saturday at Wrigley Field in a 7:08 p.m. matchup, with both teams jockeying for position in the National League Central. The Cardinals (46-39) are coming off a 17-1 drubbing of the Cubs on Friday, a game in which they pounded out 18 hits. Right-hander Andre Pallante (5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 2 K in that win) will start Saturday. Over his last five outings, Pallante is 4-1 with a 2.86 ERA, including a seven-inning, two-run effort against San Diego on June 16. The Cubs (49-39) will counter with right-hander Gavin Hollowell out of the bullpen. Hollowell worked a scoreless inning Friday (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER). He has allowed one earned run over his last five appearances (5.0 IP total), striking out six. The forecast calls for rain and a game-time temperature of 78 degrees. The Cubs took two of three from St. Louis in late May at Busch Stadium, but the Cardinals’ 16-run outburst in Friday’s series opener was their most lopsided win of the season. Shortstop Masyn Winn (2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI) and center fielder Nathan Church (2-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) led the Cardinals’ attack. St. Louis enters having won three of its last four, including a 5-3 win at Atlanta on Tuesday. The Cardinals begin a six-game homestand Monday against Milwaukee. Chicago had won three straight before Friday’s loss, including a 23-3 rout of San Diego on Wednesday. Third baseman Alex Bregman is 2-for-4 with an RBI in the series. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Cubs victory.
