ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels, two teams mired in the bottom half of their respective divisions, will meet Saturday afternoon in a Fourth of July matchup at Angel Stadium. Boston enters at 37-48, having lost three of its last four. The Red Sox were shut out 10-2 by Washington on Wednesday, their third consecutive loss to the Nationals. Left-hander Jovani Morán is a pitcher to watch out of the bullpen; in that loss, he worked 1⅔ scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out three. The Angels are 36-52 and have dropped three straight. Their most recent outing was a 1-0 loss at Seattle on Thursday, a game in which right-hander Walbert Ureña took a hard-luck defeat. Ureña allowed one run on one hit over 5⅔ innings, striking out six. Friday’s scheduled opener of this three-game series was postponed, with no score reported. Ureña is scheduled to start Saturday. He has been inconsistent recently: He pitched five scoreless innings against Houston on June 9, allowing three hits with seven strikeouts in a win. But on June 26 against Oakland, he was tagged for seven earned runs on six hits in 4⅓ innings. Boston has not announced its starting pitcher. Morán, who has been effective in relief recently, could see extended work. His last appearance was that 1⅔-inning stint July 1. The Red Sox, despite their losing record, have shown some recent offensive life. They took four of six from the New York Yankees from June 25-28, including a 5-4, 10-inning win on June 28. The Angels have struggled to score, plating three runs or fewer in five of their last six games. They were held to one run or fewer in three of those contests. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 Boston victory. The Red Sox are installed as a -1.5 favorite, and the over/under is 8.5 runs. Saturday’s game is the second of a three-game set. The series concludes Sunday before both teams hit the road. Boston travels to Chicago to face the White Sox on Tuesday, while the Angels head to Texas for a three-game series with the Rangers beginning that same day. First pitch is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. PDT.
