AP Sports Preview LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The first-place Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Diego Padres in a National League West showdown Friday at 7:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers (56-31) lead the division by 13 games over the Padres (43-42), who enter the four-game series opener after a 23-3 loss Wednesday at the Chicago Cubs. Los Angeles dropped its own series finale 7-1 at Oakland on Wednesday, snapping a four-game winning streak. The Dodgers have dominated the season series, winning five of seven meetings, including two of three in San Diego from June 26-28. The Padres’ only win in that set came June 26, a 7-1 victory. Friday’s game is the first of two at Dodger Stadium before a day off, then the clubs meet again Saturday and Sunday. San Diego first baseman/third baseman Sung-Mun Song is a player to watch. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and an RBI in Wednesday’s blowout loss at Chicago but is 1 for 8 with one RBI in two games against Los Angeles this season. Over his last 10 games, Song is batting .238 (5 for 21) with one homer and four RBIs. Los Angeles first baseman Freddie Freeman is the Dodgers’ key performer. He went 1 for 2 with a homer and an RBI at Oakland on Wednesday and has hit .303 (10 for 33) over his last eight games, with two homers and six RBIs. In three games at San Diego from June 26-28, Freeman went 5 for 11 (.455) with two RBIs. The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-4 Dodgers victory. Los Angeles is a -1.5 run-line favorite. The over/under is 8 runs. Probable pitchers have not yet been announced. The Padres next host Arizona for four games beginning Monday, then Toronto for three. The Dodgers host Colorado for three starting Monday, then Arizona for three.
