BASEBALL PREVIEW ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels, two teams buried in the bottom of their respective standings, open a three-game series Friday at Angel Stadium. Boston (37-48) arrives having lost six of seven, including a 10-2 defeat Wednesday against Washington. The Angels (36-51) have dropped five straight, most recently an 8-3 loss Tuesday at Seattle. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 Boston victory. Pitchers to watch For the Red Sox, left-hander Jovani Morán enters after a brief relief appearance Wednesday: 1 2/3 innings, zero hits, one earned run, three strikeouts in the loss to the Nationals. Morán’s control has been sharp in limited work. The Angels counter with right-hander José Soriano, who took the loss Tuesday at Seattle: 5 innings, six hits, three earned runs, nine strikeouts. Soriano has been inconsistent — he allowed five runs in three innings June 24 against Baltimore but threw five scoreless innings June 13 against Tampa Bay and earned a win June 7 at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Boston’s recent results The Red Sox lost two of three to Washington this week, salvaging a 6-3 win Monday. Boston took four of six from the New York Yankees from June 25-28, including a 5-4, 10-inning win June 28. The Red Sox dropped two of three at Colorado from June 22-24. Angels’ recent results The Angels were swept in a three-game series at Seattle this week, scoring just eight runs combined. Los Angeles took two of three from Oakland from June 26-28 and split a four-game set with Baltimore from June 22-24, including a 7-6, 10-inning win June 24. Series outlook The three-game series continues Saturday and Sunday before both teams hit the road. Boston travels to Chicago for three games against the White Sox starting Tuesday, then visits the New York Mets for three games July 10-12. Los Angeles visits Texas for three games starting Tuesday, then travels to Minnesota for three games July 10-12.
