SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Angels seek to salvage a series split Thursday night against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park, but they must first solve a pitcher who has dominated them recently. Right-hander Bryan Woo (6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5 K in a win Tuesday) takes the mound for Seattle. Woo has been erratic this season but electric in two of his past three starts, including a seven-inning shutout of Baltimore on June 18. The Angels counter with right-hander José Soriano, who took the loss Tuesday in the same ballpark, allowing three earned runs over five innings while striking out nine. Soriano has shown flashes of brilliance (Interstat) — a five-inning shutout of Tampa Bay on June 13 (Interstat) — but inconsistency has plagued him, as evidenced by allowing five earned runs to Baltimore in just three innings on June 24. Seattle (44-43) sits at .500 after winning the first two games of this three-game set, 8-3 and 6-2. The Mariners have won four of five meetings overall this season, including three of four in Seattle. Los Angeles (36-51) has lost three straight and six of its past nine. The Angels are last in the American League West, 15 games behind division-leading Houston. Shortstop Zach Neto drove in both Angels runs Tuesday with a two-run single. Colt Emerson, the Mariners’ shortstop, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the same game, and reliever Andrés Muñoz struck out one in a scoreless inning. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-4 Angels victory, but oddsmakers have installed Seattle as a -1.5 favorite on the run line. The over/under is set at 7 runs. Following this series, the Angels return home for three games against Boston starting Friday. The Mariners open a three-game homestand against Toronto. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PDT.
