ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers will attempt to build on a four-game winning streak when they open a three-game series against the Texas Rangers on Thursday at Globe Life Park. Detroit enters the matchup with a 38-49 record, while the Rangers are 44-43. The Tigers’ most recent result was a 6-2, 11-inning victory Wednesday at the New York Yankees. Right-hander Troy Melton (4-5, 3.12 ERA) is scheduled to start for Detroit. Melton has been stellar across his past four outings, posting a 1.93 ERA over 23.1 innings. He did not allow an earned run in his most recent start Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, throwing 6.1 innings of two-hit ball with seven strikeouts. Melton also limited the Houston Astros to one earned run over six innings on June 25, though he took the loss. The Tigers have won three consecutive series, taking two of three from the Chicago White Sox (June 20-22) and sweeping the New York Yankees in a three-game set that concluded Wednesday. Catcher Elias Díaz is a key bat in the Texas lineup. Díaz went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in the Rangers’ 9-4 loss at Cleveland on Wednesday. Over his past eight games, Díaz is batting .292 (7-for-24) with one home run and eight RBIs. The Rangers have won nine of their past 12 games, including a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays from June 25-27. Texas most recently dropped two of three at Cleveland. The teams last met May 1-3 in Detroit. The Rangers took the series opener, 5-4, before the Tigers won the final two games, 5-1 and 7-1. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 victory for Texas. The Rangers are a -1.5 favorite on the run line, and the over/under is 7.5 runs. Following Thursday’s game, the teams will play again Saturday and Sunday at Globe Life Park. After this series, the Tigers return home to face the Athletics and the Philadelphia Phillies before the All-Star break. The Rangers host the Los Angeles Angels and the Houston Astros before traveling to Atlanta. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
