AP Sports Preview: Reds at Brewers MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers host the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday afternoon at American Family Field, where first pitch is scheduled under clear skies and a sweltering 93-degree heat. Milwaukee (52-31) holds a commanding 13-game lead over Cincinnati (39-45) in the NL Central standings and enters this matinee looking to extend its dominance over its division rival. The Brewers have won five consecutive head-to-head meetings, including Tuesday’s 7-2 victory and Monday’s 5-3 win earlier this week. Milwaukee has outscored Cincinnati 20-8 during that stretch. Rookie infielder Sal Stewart has been a bright spot for the Reds in the series. The first baseman went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in Tuesday’s loss and is hitting .273 over his last 10 games with two homers and 11 RBIs. Over his past three games against Milwaukee, Stewart is 5-for-12 with a homer and three RBIs. Right-hander Brandon Sproat (7-2, 3.18 ERA) takes the mound for Milwaukee. He has been sharp against Cincinnati this season, allowing one earned run over 11 1/3 innings across two starts while striking out 17. In Tuesday’s win, Sproat went 5 1/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts. The Reds counter with a rotation still seeking consistency. Cincinnati is 2-8 in its last 10 games and has lost seven of nine on the road. Milwaukee is 7-3 over its last 10. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-4 Brewers victory. Milwaukee is a -1.5-run favorite, with the over/under set at 6 1/2 runs. Following this game, the Reds head home for a 10-game homestand beginning Friday against Baltimore. The Brewers travel to Arizona for a three-game series starting Friday.
