CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers aim for a series sweep Wednesday afternoon against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field, with first pitch set for 1:10 p.m. under thick clouds and 92-degree heat. Texas (43-42) has won seven of its last 10 games, including the first two contests of this four-game set. The Rangers beat the Guardians 6-3 on Monday and 4-2 on Tuesday, extending their head-to-head winning streak over Cleveland to three games dating to June 5. The Guardians (44-41) have dropped two straight after winning six of their previous eight. Right-hander Jacob Latz has been a reliable arm out of the Texas bullpen. Over his last six appearances, spanning 7 2/3 innings, Latz has allowed two earned runs while striking out nine and walking none. He earned a win Monday in this same ballpark, firing two scoreless innings with one strikeout. Latz has not allowed a run in 12 of his last 13 outings. Cleveland will counter with right-hander Colin Holderman, who has been equally effective of late. Holderman has surrendered zero earned runs in eight of his last nine appearances. He pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings with three strikeouts in Monday’s loss to Texas. Over that nine-game stretch, Holderman has a 0.00 ERA and eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. The Rangers have won six of their last seven road contests and are batting .275 as a team over that span. Designated hitter Justin Foscue went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in Monday’s win. Cleveland third baseman Gabriel Arias homered in that same game, his 12th of the season. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-4 Texas victory. The Rangers are listed as -1.5 favorites. The over/under is 8.5 runs. After Wednesday’s matinee, Texas returns home to host Detroit for three games beginning Thursday. Cleveland hosts the Chicago White Sox for a four-game series starting Thursday.
