PREVIEW: Twins at Astros HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Minnesota Twins (41-45) and the Houston Astros (42-45) will meet for the third and final game of their series Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. CDT at Daikin Park. Minnesota has won the first two games of the series, including a 5-4 victory Monday and a 3-0 shutout Tuesday. The Twins are seeking their first three-game sweep of the season after taking two of three from Colorado over the weekend. Right-hander Zebby Matthews (4-4, 3.82 ERA) is scheduled to start for Minnesota. Matthews is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA over his past three starts, including a win against these same Astros on Monday. In that 5-4 victory, he threw seven innings, allowing four hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts. He has been effective against Houston, limiting the Astros to one run over seven innings in that outing. Matthews also earned a win June 16 against the Texas Rangers and a win June 5 versus the Kansas City Royals. The Astros will counter with right-hander Miguel Ullola (4-3, 3.60 ERA). Ullola pitched two scoreless innings of relief Monday, allowing two hits with four strikeouts. Houston has lost four of its past five games, including a 7-5 win in 10 innings Sunday at Detroit. Cam Smith has been a bright spot for Houston’s offense. The right fielder is batting .400 (6-for-15) with three home runs over his past four games. He connected for two home runs and two RBIs in Monday’s 4-5 loss to Minnesota. Smith is hitting .286 with six homers and 18 RBIs on the season. Over his past 10 games, he has three home runs and six RBIs. Minnesota’s offense has been led by Josh Bell and Victor Caratini. Bell hit a home run and drove in two runs Monday, while Caratini also homered and drove in a run. The Twins are averaging 4.8 runs over their past five games. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Houston victory. After Wednesday’s game, Minnesota begins a three-game series Friday at the New York Yankees. Houston returns home Friday to start a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays.
