MLB Preview: Twins at Astros HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Minnesota Twins visit the Houston Astros on Monday night at Daikin Park, with both teams looking to gain ground in their respective division races. Minnesota (40-45) enters on a high note after a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, snapping a four-game losing streak. The Twins are 2-5 in their last seven games and sit fourth in the American League Central. Houston (42-44) has won eight of its last 10, including a 7-5, 10-inning victory at Detroit on Sunday. The Astros are third in the AL West. Pitching matchup The game features a matchup of right-handers: Minnesota’s Connor Prielipp (2-3, 4.15 ERA) against Houston’s Hunter Brown (4-5, 3.82 ERA). Prielipp is coming off his best start of the season, holding Colorado to two earned runs over six innings with 10 strikeouts in a win Sunday. He has struggled with consistency, however, allowing four earned runs in each of his two previous outings. Brown has been solid lately, posting a 2.33 ERA over his last three starts. He earned the win Sunday at Detroit, allowing two earned runs over six innings with four strikeouts. Brown’s only stumble in that stretch was a three-inning, one-run outing at Toronto on June 22 that ended in a no-decision. Head-to-head The teams last met May 18-20 at Target Field, with Minnesota taking two of three. The Twins won 6-3 and 4-1, while Houston captured the middle game 2-1. This is the first meeting in Houston this season. A look ahead Minnesota faces a critical stretch, playing three games in Houston before traveling to New York for three against the Yankees. The Twins then return home for six games against Cleveland and the Los Angeles Angels. Houston hosts Minnesota for two more games after Monday, then opens a six-game homestand against Tampa Bay before traveling to Washington and Texas. Betting line Houston is a -1.5 favorite, with the over/under set at 8.5 runs. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 Astros win. Quotable Both teams are hovering near .500 but heading in opposite directions. Houston has momentum, while the Twins are trying to build on a much-needed victory. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CT.
