SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners open a three-game series Monday night at T-Mobile Park, with both teams looking to build momentum as the season approaches its midpoint. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PDT. The Angels (36-49) are coming off a 4-1 win Sunday against Oakland, snapping a two-game skid. Left-hander Sam Aldegheri (2-4, 5.18 ERA) delivered a strong start in that victory, allowing one earned run on five hits over five innings with four strikeouts. Aldegheri’s performances have been erratic. He surrendered five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to Baltimore on June 22 and six earned runs in three innings against Arizona on June 17. However, he also tossed five innings of one-run ball against Tampa Bay on June 12 and five scoreless innings against Colorado on June 2. The Mariners (42-43) dropped their series finale Sunday, a 6-5 loss at Cleveland. Right-hander Emerson Hancock (5-5, 4.76 ERA) takes the mound for Seattle. He allowed one earned run over 5 2/3 innings in that defeat, striking out six. Hancock has been durable but inconsistent. He surrendered five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings against Boston on June 20 and six earned runs in four innings at Washington on June 14. He also turned in back-to-back quality starts earlier in the month, allowing one earned run in five innings at Baltimore on June 8 and two earned runs over six innings against the New York Mets on June 1. The teams split a three-game series in Anaheim on April 3-5, with the Mariners winning the opener 3-1 before the Angels took the final two games 1-0 and 8-7. An interstat game simulator projects a 5-4 Angels victory. Seattle enters as a minus-1.5 favorite on the run line, with the over/under set at 7½ runs. The series continues Tuesday and concludes Thursday. After this trip, the Angels return home for a weekend set against Boston, while Seattle hosts Toronto for four games.
