Athletics at Angels Preview ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels continue their six-game season series Saturday at Angel Stadium, with first pitch set for 7:07 p.m. PDT. The Athletics (39-42) hold a 4-3 edge in the season series after a wild 12-11, 10-inning win on June 19, but the Angels (34-48) have won the past two meetings, including a 9-7 victory Sunday and a 7-0 shutout Saturday. Friday’s game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday. Both teams are looking to build momentum after midweek wins. The Athletics defeated the San Francisco Giants 9-6 on Thursday, snapping a three-game losing streak. Left-hander Jeffrey Springs (0-1, 6.75 ERA) is scheduled to start for Oakland. In his last outing Thursday, Springs earned the win with 5 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts. However, he has struggled in four of his past five starts, including a 12-11 win over the Angels on June 19 in which he gave up six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Springs also allowed six earned runs in a 9-23 loss to Colorado on June 14. The Angels counter with right-hander Mitch Farris (2-2, 3.38 ERA), who will work out of the bullpen as an opener or long reliever. Farris has been effective recently, tossing two scoreless innings in a 7-6, 10-inning win over Baltimore on Wednesday. He struck out three in one perfect inning against the Dodgers on June 7, and threw four scoreless innings against Tampa Bay on May 31. But he struggled in his last meeting with the Athletics on June 19, allowing three earned runs in two innings of an 11-12 loss. The Angels have won three of their past four, including a series win over Baltimore. Their offense has been inconsistent but showed life in Wednesday’s extra-inning victory. The Athletics have dropped seven of their last 10, though their bats have been productive in recent matchups with the Angels, scoring 12 runs in the June 19 win and seven in the June 21 loss. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Angels victory, but the Athletics have been competitive at Angel Stadium, winning three of five there this season. Key for Oakland will be Springs’ ability to limit damage early, while the Angels will rely on Farris to bridge to a bullpen that has a 4.12 ERA in June. After Saturday, the teams wrap up the series with a doubleheader Sunday. The Athletics then return home to face the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Angels travel to Seattle for a three-game set. — AP Sports
