SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers visit the San Diego Padres on Saturday at 7:10 p.m. at PETCO Park. Los Angeles (52-29) holds a 10-game lead over the Padres (42-37) in the division standings. San Diego sits third in the division, 9.5 games back of Arizona. The Dodgers have won three straight games, completing a sweep of the Minnesota Twins during a six-game road trip. Los Angeles beat the Twins 4-3 on Wednesday, its third consecutive victory by two runs or fewer. Two-way star Shohei Ohtani is the primary player to watch for Los Angeles. Ohtani both pitched and hit during the Twins series. He earned a win Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts over six innings. At the plate in that game, he went 2 for 5 with an RBI. Over his past seven games entering Saturday, Ohtani is 5 for 21 with two home runs and four RBIs, and he has made two pitching appearances, allowing six earned runs over 12 innings with 13 strikeouts. The Dodgers also got production from shortstop Mookie Betts, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and an RBI in Wednesday’s win. Reliever Tanner Scott earned a hold with a scoreless inning. The Padres counter with left-hander JP Sears, who is coming off a strong start. Sears earned the win Wednesday in a 5-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts. San Diego has won three straight games to open its series against Atlanta. First baseman Ty France went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs in Wednesday’s win. Reliever David Morgan tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings for a hold. The teams opened their four-game series Friday, with the game scoreless and in the early innings at press time. The head-to-head season series is tied 1-1 entering Saturday. Los Angeles won 4-0 on May 20 in San Diego, and the teams split a three-game set in Los Angeles in May. The Dodgers won 5-4 on May 19, and the Padres won 1-0 on May 18. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Dodgers victory. Following Saturday’s game, the teams conclude the series Sunday. The Dodgers then travel to Oakland for a three-game series against the Athletics. The Padres head to Chicago for a three-game set against the Cubs. The two teams meet again July 2-5 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
