AP Sports Preview MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Minnesota Twins host the Colorado Rockies on Saturday at Target Field, with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m. local time under cloudy skies and 73-degree temperatures. The Twins (38-44) enter the game after dropping three straight to the Los Angeles Dodgers, including a 4-3 loss Wednesday. Minnesota fell behind early in that series and managed just four runs over the final two games. Colorado (32-49) comes in having won four of its past six, including an 8-6 victory over Boston on Wednesday. The Rockies took three of four from the Red Sox at home. Right-hander Joe Ryan is expected to start for Minnesota. In his most recent outing Wednesday against the Dodgers, Ryan took the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out nine. In his previous start, Ryan earned the win at Texas with five scoreless innings, scattering three hits. He has recorded at least five strikeouts in each of his past five starts. For the Rockies, right-hander Jimmy Herget has been effective out of the bullpen. Herget earned wins in his past two appearances, striking out two in each. On Wednesday against Boston, he pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Herget has not allowed an earned run over his past three outings covering 3 1/3 innings. The teams played to a scoreless tie Friday in the series opener, but the game was not completed due to weather. Colorado center fielder Cole Carrigg drove in three runs in Wednesday’s win over Boston, going 2-for-4. Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela also threw two scoreless innings in that game. Minnesota right-hander Andrew Morris and right-hander Yoendrys Gomez each pitched a scoreless inning in Wednesday’s loss. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 Twins victory. Minnesota opened as a -1.5 favorite. The over/under is set at 9 runs. Following Saturday’s game, the teams meet again Sunday to conclude the series. Colorado then hosts Miami for four games beginning Monday. Minnesota travels to Houston for three games starting Monday. Colorado’s road trip continues after this series with six games against Miami and San Francisco at home, then a three-game set at Los Angeles. Minnesota’s schedule includes a three-game series at Houston, followed by three at Yankee Stadium, then a six-game homestand.
