ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The Athletics visit the Los Angeles Angels on Friday at 7:07 p.m. at Angel Stadium in the opener of a three-game series between the last-place teams in the AL West. The Athletics enter at 39-42, having won two of three at San Francisco, including a 9-6 victory Thursday. The Angels are 34-48, coming off a 10-inning 7-6 win over Baltimore on Wednesday. Los Angeles took three of four from the Athletics last week in Oakland. Athletics left-hander Jeffrey Springs gets the start. Springs (4-6, 6.57 ERA) has been inconsistent: He earned the win Thursday at San Francisco, allowing three earned runs and three hits over 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts. However, in his previous three starts, he surrendered 17 earned runs in 11 1/3 innings, including six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings against these same Angels on June 19. Angels reliever Mitch Farris is a key bullpen arm. The left-hander tossed two scoreless innings Wednesday against Baltimore with one hit and one strikeout. He has allowed one earned run over his last 8 2/3 innings across three appearances, a stretch that includes three strikeouts and no walks. He struggled against the Athletics on June 19, allowing three earned runs in two innings of a 12-11 loss. The clubs split a four-game set in Oakland from June 18-21, with the Athletics winning the first two before the Angels took the next two. Los Angeles won 9-7 on Sunday and 7-0 on Saturday. The Athletics visited Anaheim in May and took two of three. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Angels victory. Following this series, the Athletics return home to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game set starting Monday. The Angels travel to Seattle for a three-game series beginning Monday.
