ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The Tampa Bay Rays, winners of five of their last six, visit the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday in a matchup of AL East and West clubs heading in opposite directions. First-place Tampa Bay (40-25) sends right-hander Griffin Jax (1-4) to the mound at Angel Stadium. Jax has struggled this season, but the Rays’ lineup has provided consistent run support during a stretch that included a three-game sweep of Boston earlier this week. Tampa Bay secured a 7-5 win Wednesday, getting seven innings of two-hit, shutout ball from Drew Rasmussen, who struck out 13. Rasmussen, a player to watch, has been dominant over his past two starts, allowing no runs and three hits while striking out 22 over 14 innings. However, the Angels roughed him up on May 30, scoring five earned runs over four innings in a 14-3 win. Los Angeles (27-42) counters with left-hander Reid Detmers, who has been electric of late. Detmers threw seven innings of one-run, one-hit ball in a 3-2 win over Houston on Wednesday, striking out nine. He also defeated the Rays on May 30, allowing three runs over five innings. In his last two starts, Detmers has allowed one earned run over 13 innings with 15 strikeouts. The Angels snapped a three-game skid with Wednesday’s extra-inning victory. Catcher Logan O’Hoppe homered and drove in a run, and Mike Trout added a solo shot. The series opened Friday with a scoreless tie, a game that was either postponed or suspended. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Tampa Bay victory. The Rays have won two of three head-to-head meetings this season, including a 5-2 win on May 31. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. PDT.
