AP Sports Preview CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Atlanta Braves put their best-in-baseball record on the line Thursday night against the Chicago White Sox, seeking to avoid a series sweep at Guaranteed Rate Field. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. CDT with a forecast of 72 degrees and rain likely. Left-hander Martin Perez (4-3, 3.78 ERA) is scheduled to start for Atlanta, which owns the majors’ best record at 45-22. The White Sox (35-31) counter with right-hander Erick Fedde, who has won his last three starts. In his most recent outing Tuesday against these same Braves, Fedde scattered six hits over five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out four in a 6-5, 10-inning victory. The Braves enter having lost two straight to Chicago, including a 1-0 defeat Wednesday. Atlanta’s offense has been stifled after scoring 17 runs during a three-game sweep of Pittsburgh last weekend. First baseman Matt Olson remains a key threat for Atlanta. After an 0-for-4 on Sunday, Olson rebounded with a 2-for-4, two-homer, three-RBI performance Tuesday. He has five homers and seven RBIs in his last six games. Chicago’s pitching has been sharp. Fedde’s recent run includes a five-inning, two-hit shutout at Minnesota on June 3 and a four-inning, two-earned-run win against Detroit on May 29. The White Sox bullpen has held Atlanta to one run over the last two games. The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-6 Braves victory. UP NEXT Braves: Travel to New York for a weekend series against the Mets beginning Friday. White Sox: Host the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game set starting Friday.
