DETROIT (Interstat) — The Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers meet Wednesday at Comerica Park in the second game of a three-game series, with a chance of rain in the forecast. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies and a temperature of 79 degrees. Minnesota (30-37) sends left-hander Framber Valdez (3-4) to the mound. Detroit (27-39) counters with right-hander Jack Flaherty. The Twins took the series opener 1-0 on Tuesday, extending their recent head-to-head dominance. Minnesota has won five consecutive games against Detroit dating to April, when the Twins swept a four-game set at Target Field. Valdez enters on a two-start losing streak. He allowed four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings in a 6-5 loss to Kansas City on June 4. In his last start June 7, the Twins fell to the Royals 6-5, though Connor Prielipp was productive in relief, striking out seven over 4 1/3 innings while allowing two earned runs. Prielipp has been a key arm for Minnesota. Over his past three appearances, he has a 3.68 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. He earned a win June 2 against the Chicago White Sox, allowing four earned runs in six innings. Josh Bell supplied the offense Sunday for the Twins, hitting a solo home run among his three RBIs. Flaherty (3-3) has been sharp for Detroit after two rough outings in late May. In his past two starts, he has allowed three earned runs over 10 innings, striking out 13. He earned wins against Seattle on June 7 and Tampa Bay on June 2, tossing five innings in each outing. In his June 7 outing, Flaherty struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on six hits in a 5-4 win over the Mariners. Kevin McGonigle drove in three runs with a home run, and Wenceel Pérez added two RBIs. Detroit (27-39) has lost four of its past six games, but the Tigers are 3-2 over their past five. The Tigers’ pitching staff has held opponents to one run or fewer in three of those contests. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Tigers victory. Following Wednesday’s contest, Minnesota travels to St. Louis for a three-game series starting Friday. Detroit heads to Cleveland for a three-game set against the Guardians.
