CHICAGO (Interstat) β The Chicago Cubs look to secure a series victory Sunday when they host the San Francisco Giants in the finale of a three-game set at Wrigley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. CDT. The Cubs (34-31) evened the series with a 3-2, 10-inning win Saturday, a day after the Giants (26-39) pounded out an 18-3 victory. Chicago is 5-5 in its past 10 games; San Francisco is 4-6 over the same span. Right-hander Trevor McDonald (2-3, 4.67 ERA) will start for the Giants. He is coming off a no-decision in his last outing, a 2-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 1, in which he allowed one run on six hits over six innings with six strikeouts. McDonald has not faced the Cubs this season. Right-hander Jameson Taillon (2-5, 5.32 ERA) will take the mound for Chicago. Taillon has lost his past two decisions. He surrendered five runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings in a 5-1 loss at St. Louis on May 31. Taillon is 1-2 with a 4.70 ERA in three career starts against San Francisco. Players to watch Giants right-hander Landen Roupp will be available out of the bullpen after starting Saturdayβs loss. In that game, he allowed one earned run on three hits over 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts. Over his past five appearances, including four starts, Roupp has a 4.50 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 26 innings. Cubs right-hander Ben Brown has been dominant in relief of late. He earned the win Saturday, tossing 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Over his past five outings, Brown has a 1.93 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 28 innings. He also has held opponents to a .167 batting average in that span. Series recap Saturday: Cubs 3, Giants 2 (10) (Interstat) β Brown allowed one hit over 5 1/3 scoreless innings; center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong went 4 for 5 with two home runs and two RBIs. Friday: Giants 18, Cubs 3 (Interstat) β San Francisco pounded out 20 hits; eight Giants had multiple hits. Projection The Interstat game simulator projects a 5-4 Cubs victory. Looking ahead The Giants return home Monday to open a three-game series against the Washington Nationals. The Cubs head to Colorado for a three-game set against the Rockies beginning Tuesday. The two teams will meet again next weekend in San Francisco for a three-game series starting Friday.
