N.Y. Mets at San Diego Padres Preview SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The New York Mets go for a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon at PETCO Park. Randy Vásquez (5-3) is scheduled to start for the Mets (28-35), who have won five of their last six games. Vásquez will look to build on the momentum from Friday’s 5-0 shutout, in which right-hander Christian Scott worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Scott, a key arm for the Mets this season, has posted a 0.00 ERA over his last two starts spanning 11 1/3 innings entering Sunday. San Diego (32-30) counters with Michael King (3-5), who is seeking to rebound from a difficult stretch. King allowed four earned runs over six innings in Friday’s loss to the Mets and has surrendered 12 earned runs over his last 15 2/3 innings across his past three outings. The Padres have dropped nine of their last 11 games. New York’s offense was led Friday by catcher Luis Torrens, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Reliever Huascar Brazobán added 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Saturday’s game between the clubs ended in a 0-0 tie. Weather at first pitch is forecast for 72 degrees with clouds. The Mets are installed as minus-1.5 favorites on the run line. The over/under is 7.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-1 win for New York. After Sunday’s series finale, the Mets return home to host St. Louis for three games starting Tuesday. The Padres open a three-game homestand Monday against Cincinnati.
