ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals conclude a brief two-game interleague series at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at Busch Stadium III, with the Rangers aiming to secure a series victory after splitting the first two games of the set. Texas (29-31) will send left-hander MacKenzie Gore (4-4, 3.86 ERA) to the mound. The 27-year-old is seeking his first win since May 10 against the Chicago Cubs, having suffered three losses in his past four starts. St. Louis (31-27) will counter with right-hander Andre Pallante (5-4, 3.72 ERA), who has won two of his past three decisions. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and a first-pitch temperature of 75 degrees. Texas won Monday’s series opener, 2-1. Right-hander Jacob deGrom pitched five shutout innings, striking out eight, while shortstop Ezequiel Duran went 3-for-4 with an RBI. The Rangers dropped Tuesday’s contest, 2-0. DeGrom remains a key figure for Texas despite not starting Wednesday. Over his past five outings, the two-time Cy Young Award winner has a 3.00 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 27 innings, though he has been erratic, allowing six earned runs in a May 22 start against the Los Angeles Angels. For St. Louis, right-hander Michael McGreevy has been a player to monitor. McGreevy, who started Monday’s loss, allowed two runs on five hits over six innings with one strikeout. He has a 3.86 ERA over his past five starts, with a dominant outing May 8 against San Diego (six scoreless innings, one hit, nine strikeouts). The teams have split the first two games of the series, with Texas outscoring St. Louis 2-1 over that span. The Rangers have won four of their past five games, while the Cardinals have dropped three of their last four. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Texas victory. The Rangers enter as a minus-1.5 favorite on the run line, with an over/under of 8 runs. Following Wednesday’s game, Texas returns home for a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians beginning Friday. St. Louis hosts the Cincinnati Reds for a three-game set starting Friday.
