ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers will try to even their brief series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium III, where first pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. under cloudy skies and a temperature of 80 degrees. Texas (28-31) dropped the opener Monday in what was ruled a scoreless tie (Interstat) — the game was suspended in the first inning due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader later this season. The Rangers enter having won three straight, including a 6-3 victory over Kansas City on Sunday in which right-hander Jack Leiter struck out 10 over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. St. Louis (31-26) also won Sunday, defeating the Chicago Cubs 5-1. Left-hander Matthew Liberatore earned the win, allowing three hits over 5 1/3 scoreless frames with four strikeouts. The Cardinals have split their last four games. Tuesday’s probable pitchers: Texas sends right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (5-6, 3.82 ERA) to the mound. Eovaldi has struggled of late, allowing four earned runs in each of his last two starts. St. Louis counters with left-hander Matthew Liberatore, who has posted a 3.31 ERA over his past three outings. Liberatore has been effective at home this season, holding opponents to a .218 batting average. Eovaldi, meanwhile, has a 4.50 ERA on the road in 2026. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-3 Cardinals victory, but oddsmakers have installed Texas as a slight favorite at -1.5 on the run line. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs. Players to watch: For Texas, Leiter has been outstanding in his last five appearances, posting a 1.69 ERA over 28 1/3 innings with 31 strikeouts. Shortstop Ezequiel Duran drove in two runs Sunday and is hitting .281 in June. For St. Louis, shortstop Masyn Winn had two RBIs on Sunday and is batting .302 over his last 10 games. Liberatore has held the Rangers’ current roster to a .167 average in limited at-bats. The two teams meet again Wednesday before Texas returns home to face Cleveland on Friday. St. Louis hosts Cincinnati for a three-game set starting Friday.
