WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals continue their series Saturday afternoon at Nationals Park, with San Diego right-hander Michael King (4-3) opposing Washington right-hander Miles Mikolas. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. under clear skies. The temperature is forecast to be 79 degrees. The Padres (31-24) enter having lost four of their last five games, including a 3-0 shutout Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies. San Diego has scored two runs or fewer in five of its past six contests and managed just three hits Wednesday. Right-hander Walker Buehler, who started that loss, has been one of the Padres’ most consistent arms. In his last five outings, Buehler is 4-1 with a 4.15 ERA, allowing two earned runs or fewer in four of those starts. Over 26 1/3 innings in that span, he has struck out 19 and walked six. The Nationals (29-28) have won six of their last 10 games. They took two of three from the Cleveland Guardians before dropping Wednesday’s series finale 3-2. Shortstop CJ Abrams went 2-for-3 with an RBI in that game and is batting .287 with seven home runs for the season. Mikolas (3-3) took a no-decision Wednesday, allowing no earned runs over 3 2/3 innings while striking out one. He has yielded zero earned runs in two of his last three starts, including a five-inning, three-hit outing May 22 at Atlanta. But he has failed to complete five innings in three of his last four outings. The teams played a 5-5 tie in Friday’s series opener, the first meeting between the clubs this season. San Diego took two of three at Nationals Park last year. San Diego’s bullpen has posted a 3.12 ERA in its last 10 games. Relievers Jeremiah Estrada and Jason Adam have combined for 12 scoreless appearances in that stretch. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-4 Washington victory. San Diego is a minus-1.5 run favorite, and the over/under is 8. After Saturday’s game, the Padres travel to Philadelphia for a three-game series beginning Tuesday. Washington returns home to host the Miami Marlins on Monday.
