CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox play the second game of their four-game series Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 79 degrees. Minnesota (26-28) will start right-hander Joe Ryan (3-3, 3.86 ERA). Ryan allowed two earned runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Houston Astros on May 19, striking out eight and scattering five hits. Chicago had not named its starter as of late Monday. The White Sox (27-26) won the series opener 3-1 on Monday, snapping a three-game losing streak. Right-hander Anthony Kay (2-3) earned the win, allowing one earned run on five hits over six innings with five strikeouts. Catcher Drew Romo provided the decisive blow with a two-run home run. Minnesota enters the game having won three of its last four, including a series victory at Boston over the weekend. The Twins have struggled against left-handed pitching this season and will look to even the series before the teams play two more games at Guaranteed Rate Field through Thursday. Players to watch Twins right-hander Zebby Matthews has posted a 3.00 ERA over his last three starts despite taking losses in two of them. He pitched six innings Monday, allowing three earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. In his previous start, he threw seven scoreless innings against the Miami Marlins on May 14. White Sox left-hander Anthony Kay has been dominant over his last five outings, posting a 1.32 ERA and a 4-1 record. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of those starts, striking out 24 over 27 1/3 innings. Kay pitched six innings of one-run ball against the Twins on Monday. Series notes Minnesota has lost four of its last six games against Chicago dating to last season. The Twins are 11-16 on the road; the White Sox are 14-12 at home. Projection The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-4 Minnesota victory. The Twins were installed as a minus-1.5 run line favorite. The over-under is 7.5 runs. Up next The teams play the third game of the series Wednesday, with Minnesota right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson scheduled to start against a White Sox pitcher to be announced. The series concludes Thursday afternoon.
