DETROIT (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Angels and Detroit Tigers open a three-game series Tuesday night at Comerica Park, with both teams seeking to build on series-ending victories. Right-handers Jack Kochanowicz (2-3) or Keider Montero (2-3) are listed as likely starters for the Angels; Detroit was expected to announce its starter later Monday. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. under clear skies, with temperatures forecast at 76 degrees. Los Angeles enters at 20-34 after taking the final two games of a weekend set against Texas at home. The Angels won 2-1 on Sunday behind a dominant outing from left-hander Reid Detmers, who struck out 14 over eight innings of one-hit ball. Right-hander Sam Bachman recorded the save. Detmers has been a bright spot in a rotation that has otherwise struggled. Over his past two starts, he has posted a 2.63 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings, though three of his previous four outings ended in losses. The Angels have dropped seven of their last 10 games overall. Detroit (22-32) snapped a five-game losing streak Sunday with a 4-1 win at Baltimore. Left-hander Framber Valdez pitched six innings of two-hit ball, allowing one run with five strikeouts to earn a quality start. Reliever Will Vest recorded a scoreless inning, and center fielder Matt Vierling went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Valdez has been inconsistent this season. In five starts, he has alternated strong performances with blowups, including a May 5 outing against Boston in which he allowed seven runs in three innings. He carries a 6.08 ERA into his next turn. The Tigers have lost eight of their last 10, with their offense averaging 2.6 runs per game over that span. Detroit’s pitching staff has a 5.14 ERA in that stretch. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 3-2 Angels victory. Detroit is a -1.5 favorite on the run line, with the over/under set at 8.5 runs. The series continues Wednesday and Thursday before both clubs travel for weekend sets. The Angels head to Tampa Bay, while Detroit visits the Chicago White Sox.
