SEATTLE (Interstat) — The surging San Diego Padres look to complete a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners on Sunday at T-Mobile Park, where a cold rain and a pair of familiar arms await. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. PDT under a forecast of 54 degrees and rain. San Diego (26-18) has dominated Seattle this season, winning five of six meetings, including 2-0 victories Friday and Saturday. The Padres have outscored the Mariners 24-3 in the season series. Right-hander Randy Vásquez (4-1, 2.87 ERA) takes the mound for the Padres. He earned the win Friday in the series opener, allowing four hits over six scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a 2-0 victory. Vásquez has been stellar against Seattle this season, tossing 13 scoreless innings across two starts. The Padres have won four of Vásquez’s last five outings. He threw seven scoreless innings April 21 at Colorado and allowed one run over five innings May 9 against St. Louis. His lone loss came May 4 at San Francisco, where he surrendered three runs in 5 2/3 innings. Seattle (22-24) counters with right-hander Emerson Hancock (2-4, 4.23 ERA). Hancock took the loss Friday opposite Vásquez, allowing one run on five hits over six innings with six strikeouts. The Mariners have lost four of Hancock’s last five starts, though he has pitched effectively in three of those outings. Hancock struck out 14 over seven innings May 2 against Kansas City, allowing one run in a 3-2 loss. He allowed two runs over six innings April 26 at St. Louis. His struggles have come against San Diego, which has touched him for 11 runs (10 earned) over 17 innings in three appearances this season. San Diego’s offense has been quiet in Seattle, scoring just two runs in each of the first two games. The Padres will face a Mariners bullpen that has been effective but received little run support. Seattle has scored two runs or fewer in four of its last five games. The Mariners split a four-game series at San Diego in April, then dropped the first two games of this homestand. Seattle went 4-3 on a road trip through Houston and Chicago that ended last week. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 Padres victory. Seattle is a -1.5 run favorite, with the over/under set at 7½. Sunday’s game is the final contest of a nine-game homestand for the Mariners. They host the Chicago White Sox for three games starting Monday, then travel to Kansas City for three games beginning Friday. The Padres open a six-game homestand Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers before a three-game series with Oakland begins Friday. AP Preview
