ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — Right-hander José Soriano (6-2) takes the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they visit the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday, May 16, at Angel Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:07 p.m. The Dodgers (26-18) sit atop the NL West, while the Angels (16-28) are in last place in the AL West. Soriano has been a steady force in the rotation, allowing two earned runs or fewer in five of his last seven starts. He will be opposed by Angels left-hander Reid Detmers, who has struggled recently. Detmers is 1-4 in his last five decisions after allowing three runs in 5⅔ innings in a 4-2 loss at Cleveland on Wednesday. A key arm for the Dodgers is right-hander Emmet Sheehan, who earned a win Thursday against San Francisco, allowing two runs over six innings with six strikeouts. Over his last three appearances, Sheehan has struck out 21 batters in 15⅓ innings and posted a 2.93 ERA. The Dodgers bullpen also has been sharp, with left-hander Tanner Scott and right-hander Edgardo Henriquez combining for two perfect innings in Thursday’s win. For the Angels, shortstop Zach Neto homered in Wednesday’s loss and has been a rare bright spot in a lineup that has scored three runs or fewer in seven of its last 10 games. Right-hander Sam Bachman threw 1⅓ scoreless innings in that defeat. Friday’s series opener was postponed due to rain, leaving Saturday’s game as the only meeting between the Freeway Series rivals this weekend. The Dodgers have won two straight after losing four of five. The Angels have lost three in a row and six of their last eight. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 Dodgers victory. Los Angeles is a -1.5 run line favorite, with an over/under of 8.5 total runs. Following Saturday’s game, the Dodgers travel to San Diego for a three-game series starting Monday. The Angels return home to host Oakland for a four-game set beginning Monday. The two teams do not meet again until August.
