MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — A four-game series concludes Thursday afternoon when the Miami Marlins visit the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. with the temperature at 69 degrees and clear skies. Both teams enter with identical 19-23 records. Miami left-hander Robby Snelling (0-1) will make his second start of the season. He is opposed by Minnesota right-hander Bailey Ober, who threw a complete-game shutout against the Marlins on Tuesday, allowing two hits while striking out seven in a 3-0 victory. Ober’s previous start was a 5-inning, five-run outing at Washington on May 6, but he has been effective in his two most recent home starts, allowing one run over 12 1/3 innings against Toronto and Cincinnati. Snelling is making his first start since April 16, when he allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings against the New York Mets in a no-decision. He has not recorded a decision in two major league appearances this season. Players to watch include Miami right-hander Eury Pérez, who has lost his past four decisions despite delivering quality starts in three of those outings. In his last five starts, Pérez has a 3.29 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings. He took the loss Tuesday against the Twins, allowing three runs over six innings with eight strikeouts. Ober has been inconsistent but dominant in his best outings. In six starts this season, he has pitched at least six innings four times and has not allowed a home run in three of those appearances. The Marlins won Wednesday’s game 4-2, scoring four runs in the sixth inning to break a 0-0 tie. The Twins won the series opener 3-0 on Tuesday behind Ober’s complete game. Miami is 4-6 in its past 10 games and is coming off a series loss at home to Washington. The Twins are also 4-6 over their past 10, with series wins at Cleveland and at home against Toronto. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Twins victory. Miami is a minus-1.5 run-line favorite. The over/under is 9 runs. The Marlins head to Tampa Bay for a three-game series beginning Friday. The Twins host Milwaukee for three games starting Friday.
