Preview: Padres at Giants SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The San Diego Padres visit the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon at Oracle Park in the second game of a three-game series, following Tuesday’s postponement due to inclement weather. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. PT under cloudy skies with temperatures around 61 degrees. The Padres (20-14) enter as the NL West leaders, while the Giants (14-21) sit in last place in the division. San Diego has lost four of its last five games, including Monday’s 3-2 defeat in the series opener. San Francisco has won two of its last three after a six-game losing streak. Right-hander Adrian Houser (0-3, 5.60 ERA) is the scheduled starter for San Diego. Houser has struggled to find consistency this season, allowing 16 earned runs over 25 2/3 innings. His last outing came April 29 against the Chicago Cubs, where he gave up four runs in five innings. The Giants will counter with their own right-hander, Matt Waldron (0-1, 4.50 ERA). Waldron has made one start this season, allowing three runs in six innings April 23 at Miami. He has not faced the Padres this year. San Diego right-hander Randy Vásquez is a player to watch, though he is not scheduled to start Wednesday. Vásquez pitched Monday’s game, allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings in a losing effort. Over his last five starts, Vásquez has a 4-1 record with a 3.39 ERA, striking out 25 in 27 1/3 innings. Giants right-hander Trevor McDonald also turned in a strong performance Monday, striking out eight over seven innings while allowing one earned run on two hits. McDonald is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two appearances this season. The teams split a two-game set at Petco Park in late March, with San Francisco winning 3-2 and 9-3. The Padres won the other contest 7-1. According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Padres are projected to win 5-3. Interstat’s ELO system gives San Diego a 53.4 percent probability of victory. The betting line has San Diego as a 1.5-run favorite, with the over/under set at 8.5 total runs. After this series, San Diego returns home for four games against St. Louis, beginning Thursday. San Francisco hosts Pittsburgh for three games starting Friday.
