ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals conclude their three-game series Wednesday evening at Busch Stadium III, with first pitch scheduled under cloudy skies and a temperature of 55 degrees. Left-hander Matthew Liberatore (1-1) takes the mound for Milwaukee (18-16), while St. Louis (21-14) counters with right-hander Kyle Leahy, who has emerged as a reliable arm in the Cardinals’ rotation. Leahy threw 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball in Monday’s series opener, a 6-3 St. Louis victory. Tuesday’s scheduled game was postponed, setting up a quick turnaround for the two National League Central rivals. The Brewers will look to even the series behind a lineup that has been sparked by second baseman Brice Turang. Over his last five games, Turang is 9-for-19 with a home run and four RBIs, including a 3-for-5, two-RBI performance in Monday’s loss. Milwaukee enters the game having won four of its last six, including a three-game sweep at Washington last weekend. The Brewers’ offense has shown signs of life, scoring 13 runs in each of two wins against Arizona in late April. St. Louis, meanwhile, has won four of its last five, with Leahy (no official record this season) providing stability. In his last two starts, he has allowed two earned runs over 10 2/3 innings while striking out 12. The Cardinals’ lineup features designated hitter Iván Herrera, who drove in three runs Monday, and a bullpen that has been effective in high-leverage spots. The Brewers’ Liberatore will be making his fifth start of the season. He has been inconsistent, but has shown the ability to work deep into games. In his most recent outing, he allowed three earned runs over five innings in a no-decision against Arizona. Wednesday’s game carries implications for divisional positioning. The Cardinals hold a three-game lead over the second-place Brewers in the NL Central. Milwaukee returns home Friday to open a six-game homestand against the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres, while St. Louis begins a four-game road trip at San Diego on Thursday. Projections from Interstat’s game simulator favor St. Louis 7-4, though the same system’s ELO model gives Milwaukee a 56 percent probability to win, highlighting the uncertainty of the matchup. Notes: Turang is 8-for-25 over his last seven games with two home runs. … Leahy has held opponents to a .231 batting average over his last three starts. … The Brewers have not won a series in St. Louis since 2023.
