CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs look to regain control of a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday at Wrigley Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CDT, with a forecast of 55 degrees and clouds. The Cubs (23-12) enter with a share of the NL Central lead, while the Reds (20-15) sit 3 1/2 games back. The clubs split the first two games of this set, with Cincinnati taking Tuesday’s game 2-0 after Chicago won Monday’s opener 5-4. Right-hander Colin Rea (4-1, 2.89 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Reds. Rea has won three consecutive decisions and allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his six starts this season. The Cubs had not announced a probable starter as of Tuesday. Reds rookie right-hander Chase Petty is a key arm to watch. Petty on Monday took the loss in relief, allowing three earned runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings while striking out one. For the Cubs, outfielder Seiya Suzuki has been the club’s hottest hitter. Suzuki on Monday went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in the win over Cincinnati. Over his last 10 games entering Wednesday, Suzuki is batting .333 with three homers and seven RBIs. Cincinnati has lost four of its last five games overall. Prior to Tuesday’s shutout, the Reds were outscored 27-8 during a three-game sweep at Pittsburgh over the weekend. Chicago has won seven of its last 10 games. The Cubs posted a three-game sweep of Arizona at home before dropping the series opener to Cincinnati. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Cubs victory. Following Wednesday’s game, the teams conclude the series Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Cincinnati then returns home for a three-game set against Houston, while Chicago travels to Texas for three games against the Rangers.
