SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Atlanta Braves, owners of the best record in baseball, try to avoid a three-game sweep Wednesday evening when they face the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with temperatures near 63 degrees. The Braves (25-11) send right-hander Grant Holmes (2-1, 3.86 ERA) to the mound. Holmes has been solid in his first full season in the rotation, striking out 30 over 35 innings. The Mariners counter with righty Bryan Woo (1-2, 4.70 ERA), who is seeking his second win after allowing three earned runs over five innings in his last start against Kansas City. Seattle (17-19) took the series opener 5-4 on Monday, a game that featured a dramatic go-ahead home run from Luke Raley. Raley, playing right field, went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and has been a bright spot in an inconsistent Mariners lineup. He is hitting .245 with four homers this season. Atlanta’s offense, which leads the National League in runs scored, struggled to contain Seattle’s bullpen in that loss. Third baseman Austin Riley went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI, while right-hander JR Ritchie took the loss despite allowing three earned runs over five innings. Ritchie has been a key arm for Atlanta this season and will be available in relief Wednesday if needed. Tuesday’s game between the clubs was postponed due to rain and has not yet been rescheduled. The Braves are coming off a four-game split with Colorado in which they scored 28 runs, while the Mariners dropped two of three to Kansas City over the weekend. Seattle’s pitching staff has a collective 3.95 ERA, but the bullpen has blown four saves this month. Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-5 win for Atlanta, though the Mariners hold a slight edge in ELO probability at 50.7 percent. Seattle opened as a -1.5 favorite on the run line, with the over/under set at 7.5 runs. Following Wednesday’s game, the Braves travel to Los Angeles for a three-game set against the Dodgers beginning Friday. The Mariners head to Chicago for a three-game series against the White Sox starting Friday.
