DETROIT (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers continue their weekend series Saturday at Comerica Park, with first pitch scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 44 degrees and rain. Texas (15-16) will send right-hander Kumar Rocker (1-2) to the mound. Detroit (16-16) counters with right-hander Keider Montero (1-2). The Tigers enter as a -1.5 favorite, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 4-3 victory for Detroit. The over/under is 8.5. The Rangers are coming off a 3-0 win Wednesday over the New York Yankees, a game in which Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven innings of four-hit, shutout ball with seven strikeouts. Eovaldi, who is not scheduled to start Saturday, has been Texas’ most consistent arm of late. Over his past two starts he has allowed two earned runs in 13 innings, with 14 strikeouts. In his last five outings, he has a 3-2 record and a 2.61 ERA across 31 innings. For Detroit, Framber Valdez has been a key figure. In his most recent start Thursday at Atlanta, Valdez earned a win with six innings of two-run ball, striking out eight. Over his past three starts, he has a 2-0 record and a 1.42 ERA. Valdez is also not scheduled to pitch Saturday but remains a player to watch for the Tigers. Both teams split the series opener Friday, with the game ending in a 4-4 tie. That result extended a stretch of close contests for both clubs. Texas has lost four of its past six games, while Detroit has won four of its past seven. The Rangers’ offense has struggled to produce runs, scoring three or fewer in five of their last seven games. Third baseman Josh Jung drove in two runs in Wednesday’s win, going 1 for 4. Detroit’s bullpen has been solid, with Drew Anderson and Kyle Finnegan combining for three scoreless innings in Thursday’s win over Atlanta. Rocker, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 draft, has a 5.40 ERA over his first four starts this season. Montero, 26, has a 4.91 ERA in four starts. Following Saturday’s game, the teams meet again Sunday to close the series. Texas then travels to New York for a three-game set against the Yankees, while Detroit returns home to host Boston.
