CHICAGO (Interstat) β€” The Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox open a three-game series Monday at Guaranteed Rate Field, with both teams looking to climb out of early-season holes. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. CDT. The forecast calls for clouds and 56 degrees. Left-hander Anthony Kay (1-1, 4.50 ERA) is the probable starter for the Angels, who carry a 12-16 record into the game. The White Sox (11-17) have not announced a starter, though right-hander Sean Burke has been their most effective pitcher of late. Burke worked 7 1/3 scoreless innings in a 2-1, 10-inning loss to Washington on Sunday, allowing three hits and striking out four. Over his past two starts, Burke (3-3) has allowed two earned runs in 13 1/3 innings. Angels reliever Nick Sandlin is a player to watch after posting scoreless outings in two of his past three appearances. Sandlin, however, allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings April 18 against San Diego and two runs in one-third of an inning April 12 at Cincinnati. Los Angeles is coming off a 12-1 loss at Kansas City on Saturday, its fourth consecutive defeat. The Angels have dropped eight of their past 10 games. Chicago fell to Washington 2-1 in 10 innings Sunday. The White Sox have lost six of their past nine. The Interstat game simulator projects a 5-3 White Sox victory. Los Angeles is a minus-1.5 run favorite on the spread, and the over-under is 9 1/2 runs. This is the first of seven meetings between the teams in a 10-day span. After Monday’s game, the clubs play Tuesday and Wednesday in Chicago before the series shifts to Los Angeles for three games May 4-6.
