LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — The Vegas Golden Knights look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead when they host the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of their playoff series Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas holds a 2-1 advantage after a 5-4 shootout win Saturday. Mitchell Marner starred with three goals and an assist, firing 10 shots on goal. Marner has been a force throughout the postseason, racking up multiple points in three of his last four games. Carolina, which finished the regular season with an NHL-best 66-32 record, will need a bounce-back performance from Jordan Staal. The Hurricanes center had a goal and an assist Saturday and has been consistent, notching points in three of his last four contests. The Hurricanes took Game 2 in Raleigh 4-3 in overtime on June 4, but the Golden Knights have regained home-ice momentum. Vegas enters with a 53-48 record, having weathered injuries during the regular season but hitting its stride in the playoffs. Tuesday’s matchup marks the fourth meeting between the teams in nine days. Vegas won the series opener 5-4 on June 2, followed by Carolina’s OT victory, then Saturday’s shootout decision. Carolina’s depth will be tested after allowing five goals in two of the three games. The Hurricanes’ top line, featuring Jordan Martinook and Taylor Hall, combined for three goals in the series, but Vegas has countered with balanced scoring from Marner, Shea Theodore and Tomas Hertl. Both teams are coming off a quick turnaround; they play again Thursday in Raleigh for Game 5 if necessary. For Carolina, Staal’s physical presence and faceoff ability will be critical. He has 19 shots on goal over the past five games. For Vegas, Marner’s playmaking and shot volume — 10 sog in Game 3 alone — make him the primary threat. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. local time. The winner of Game 4 historically has an 85% chance of advancing in best-of-seven series.
