MONTREAL (Interstat) — The Montreal Canadiens look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in their second-round playoff series Monday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes at Bell Centre. Game 2 is set for 7 p.m. EDT. Montreal holds a 1-0 series lead after a decisive 6-2 victory Thursday in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Canadiens, who finished the regular season with a 57-40 record across all competitions, have won three straight playoff games. Carolina, which posted a league-best 61-30 mark, has lost two of its last three postseason contests. Montreal’s offense has been fueled by winger Juraj Slafkovsky, who scored twice and added an assist in the series opener. The 22-year-old has collected four goals and 10 assists over his last eight playoff games, including a three-assist performance against Buffalo on May 14. Slafkovsky has registered at least one point in seven of his past nine contests. Carolina center Seth Jarvis scored once on five shots in the Game 1 loss. Jarvis, who has two goals in his last five outings, has been a consistent threat, recording multiple shots on goal in each of his last six games. The Hurricanes will need production from their top line to counter Montreal’s depth. The Canadiens have won four of the five head-to-head meetings this season, including three straight. Montreal goaltender Jakub Dobes stopped 25 of 27 shots in the series opener. The series shifts to Raleigh for Games 3 and 4 on Friday, May 29, and Tuesday, June 2.
