MONTREAL (Interstat) — The Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens meet Sunday at Bell Centre in Game 3 of their National Hockey League playoff series, tied 1-1 after the first two games in Buffalo. Buffalo (55-35) opened the series with a 4-2 victory Wednesday, May 6, before Montreal (53-38) responded with a 5-1 win Friday, May 8. The Sabres have won four of the six head-to-head meetings this season, including a 4-2 victory Jan. 22 at Bell Centre. Forward Zach Benson has been a key contributor for Buffalo. In Friday’s loss, Benson recorded a goal on one shot and two penalty minutes. Over his past eight games, he has three goals and three assists, including a goal and three shots in a 6-1 win at Boston on April 26. Forward Alex Newhook leads Montreal’s attack. He scored two goals on four shots in Friday’s victory, adding a hit. Newhook has four goals and two assists in his past seven games, including a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders on April 12. The Canadiens won the first two rounds against Tampa Bay, taking the series in six games. The Sabres eliminated Boston in five games. Game 3 is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT. Game 4 is Tuesday at Bell Centre.
