PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Carolina Hurricanes will attempt to seize a commanding 3-0 lead in their Eastern Conference playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT. Carolina holds a 2-0 advantage after winning the opening two games at home, including a 3-2 overtime victory Monday. The Hurricanes posted a 59-29 record during the regular season, the best mark in the NHL. Philadelphia finished 47-43. Carolina center Jordan Staal will be a key player to watch. In Monday’s win, he recorded an assist and one hit. Staal also had three shots on goal and two penalty minutes April 25 against Ottawa, and he scored a goal with an assist, four shots on goal and two hits April 11 against Utah. Philadelphia center Sean Couturier scored a goal on five shots Monday in the losing effort. He had five shots on goal in a 3-0 loss Saturday in Game 2. Couturier collected five points (two goals, three assists) over a four-game stretch against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, including two assists and four penalty minutes April 22. The teams have played six times this season, with five games decided by one goal or in a shootout. Carolina won 3-2 in overtime Monday and 3-0 on Saturday. The Flyers won 3-2 in a shootout April 13 in Philadelphia. Carolina has won four of the six matchups. Carolina goaltender Frederik Andersen stopped 34 of 36 shots Monday to earn the win. He has been solid throughout the postseason. The Flyers will need to solve Carolina’s defensive pressure and generate more offense after managing only two goals in the series. Philadelphia has not scored more than three goals in any game against Carolina this season. The series continues with Game 4 on Saturday in Philadelphia.
